The Western European Languages Department is a main structural division of the Languages Department. The department provides core and elective curricula in three Western European languages - English, German and French - for the students of Bachelor and Master degree programmes.  All Bachelor degree students have to study a foreign language in their first semester.  From their second semester the Bachelor degree students of all majors are offered elective foreign language curricula for the next six semesters and the students of IER and Tourism majors may choose to study a second foreign language.  The following specialised programmes are available for the third and fourth year students in Tourism, IER and Accounting and Control: Special Language Skills for Tourism; Language of the International Trade, and Special Language Skills for Accounting and Control, respectively. The Western European Languages Department also organises additional courses for students, PhD candidates and assistant professors.   All curricula are consistent with the needs of the students and have a preliminary economic focus. The educational programmes are updated on regular basis to comply with the actual requirements and the changing environment. The disciplines are taught by highly qualified senior lecturers with a long time professional experience, who continuously heighten their qualification. The international activities are among the priorities of the department. They are expressed in the participation in the Erasmus international exchange students programmes, and implementation of lecturers mobility in partner universities.

The mission of the Western European Languages Department is to achieve high quality of the foreign language education, creating highly qualified professionals with solid knowledge and skills, competitive in the conditions of European integration and accession of Bulgaria to the global structures and values.

The main objective of the Western European Languages Department is to organize language training in a way ensuring successful adaptation to the dynamically changing competitive environment; providing students with skills and competencies in knowledge of foreign languages guaranteeing their mobility within the EU programmes for international cooperation and successful career development.
