Until 2014 the Department of "Management and Administration" was named Department of "Economic Management" which was established by the order of the Rector and the Academic Council in 1967. An important role in the history of the Department has played Prof. G. Minchev, PhD who was the initiator for the department establishment and its first Head of this same department. The founders of the department were Assoc. Prof. Todor Georgiev, Prof. Carol Telbizov, PhD and Assoc. Prof. Nora Mitsova, PhD. The idea of ​​the founders was to form and establish an educational and research unit in all areas of economic management. Later Assoc. Prof. S. Hristov, PhD, Assoc. Prof. H. Dimitrov, PhD, Prof. Elias Lichev, PhD, Assoc. Prof. Dimitar Valchanov, PhD, Assoc. Prof. Dimitar Zlatev, PhD and Assoc.Prof.Slavcho Kamenov, PhD joined the founders of the department.

More than 45 years the academic staff of the department prepares specialists who are able to find employment at all levels of the economics in Bulgaria.

Since its establishment the Department of "Management and Administration" has won its own area of training and research, including: theory of economic management, planning and forecasting, marketing, economics of branches and legal sciences. In its development and recognition it includes other aspects of the management activities.

New stage in the development of the Department of "Management and Administration" began in 1991 when its lecturers claimed responsibility for the education of students in "Marketing and Management" and from 1997/98 a new major in "Business Management" was established. This major had to meet the requirements for new knowledge and skills in Management in our country. Since then it has trained bachelors, masters and doctoral students in full-time and part-time form of education.
