Economics of Agriculture

The department was established in 1990. It aims to educate professionals with fundamental broad-spectrum expertise in all areas of contemporary public life that require a degree in Agricultural Business. The department provides students with fundamental theoretical knowledge, specialized expertise in agricultural field and practical skills.

The missions of Economics of Agriculture Department is to train students in modern and current trends of the agricultural economics, combined with fundamental economic training, and to prepare highly qualified specialists for enterprises in agricultural sphere, state and municipal administration, scientific centers and laboratories, and etc. 

Since its establishment the department organizes training in the bachelor program Agricultural Business and in the master program Business Consulting. For that period in the department have been trained and graduated more than 1750 bachelors and over 200 masters.

Economics of Agriculture Department prepares PhDs students in Economics (Scientific field: Economics and Management – Agricultural Management). Since the establishment of doctoral training 10 PhD students have enrolled. Four of them have successfully defended their dissertations and have gained PhD in the relevant scientific field. At the moment two PhD students and one PhD candidate train in the department.

The department has consisted of 14 full-time and 4 part-time lecturers. At the moment the department has 8 full-time lecturers (4 of them are PhDs), carrying out training in 23 disciplines in Bachelor programs and 13 disciplines in Master programs.

The academic staff of the department carries out multifaceted research and applied work together with national, regional and international institutions. One of the major projects, implemented by the department for period of three years together with the University of Bedfordshire, UK; University of Limerick, Ireland; University of Salerno, Italy; and Minho University, Portugal. In result of that international project as part of Economics of Agriculture Department was created Agricultural Business Center.
