Marketing Department

"Model in the Marketing Teaching"

Established on June 17, 1997, the Marketing Department is the first specialized research unit in Bulgaria, with a focus on the theoretical and applied aspects of marketing. Having concentrated the efforts of highly professional teaching team, it has become one of the fastest and most dynamic research units at the University of Economics - Varna.

The department offers a specialized training programme for a Bachelor's degree in Marketing as a major subject. A precisely adjusted programme is designed to prepare students in the following areas of expertise: customer relationship management, branding, consumer behaviour, distribution management, market research, marketing management, international marketing, integrated marketing communications, interactive marketing, product analysis, marketing services and others. The Department administers an “International Business" programme which is the first major taught in English language at the University of Economics - Varna.

In response to the market challenges and demands for specialists in marketing, the department develops Master's programmes in the following fields: "Sales Management and Merchandising”, "Advertising and Media Communications" and "Corporate Marketing”. Each programme brings together all the efforts of the academic staff to build key knowledge, skills and competencies for the future successful career of the university graduates. The students not only master a good level of theoretical knowledge in scientific marketing concepts and modern marketing models but also acquire the necessary skills’ to apply them in the real-life market environment.

The academic staff of the Marketing Department is involved in an active scientific work and also maintains a strong connections with the business. The Department’s academic staff has gained international scientific recognitions. Every year they publish academic papers in national and international scientific journals, including: Economic Alternatives, The International Journal of Professional Management, Marketing Insight Research Unit- Hertfordshire Business School, etc. The department’s Professors are honorary members of highly respected international editorial boards and marketing associations. The academic staff of the Marketing Department manages and advises on a number of projects financed by the World Bank, EU operational programs and others.

More than 10 doctoral dissertations have been defended within the Marketing Department in the last 15 years. Currently, the Department is training 13 doctoral students in the most contemporary trends in the field of marketing theory and practice. In continuous cooperation with their academic mentors and with the support of the Department, the doctoral students maintain a high level of quality and competitiveness. This is a good motivation for continuous development and enrichment of the young, innovative and ambitious team of professionals in the Department.
